Statement As a young child, I became fascinated with simple inventions such as zippers, clothes pins, paperclips, rubber bands and scotch tape. As I grew, I realized I could combine them to make functional items beyond their original intent and in doing so, I would often times find myself in trouble after launching Batman across the room, knocking more fragile items to the floor. When I was an art student I learned about Claus Oldenburg's larger than life sculptures and from there knew what style of sculpture I would create. I now combine my childhood interests with my knowledge of art and the resources of my steel fabrication business to create my works. However, I am still having trouble getting the 40 foot rummber bands I already have uses for. David Snyder |
