Statement
We live in a world of
uncertainty. The threat of war and annihilation is always with us.
We created this sculpture to give voice to the horrors and fears
that lurk behind us in our daily lives and to give hope for a more
peaceful world.
The concept of this work
arose out of a letter we received from a woman friend who described
the horrors of the rapes, brutality, and murders perpetuated by
the Indonesian militias against the Chinese population in 1999.
The letter described in great detail the slow death of a Chinese
woman whose breasts had been cut off during the massacre. Our sculpture
of these eight abstract figures represents the specters who carried
out the atrocities. They are nameless and faceless.
