Statement
The choice of materials
I use in my pieces--glass and steel-work against each other, causing
tension while maintaining a high level of dialogue. The juxtaposition
of the two serves to create an actual conversation, drawing the
viewer in, inviting them to participate, engaging them both mentally
and physically regardless of race, creed or color. This allows the
viewer's own past experiences to play a significant role in the
present moment.
Rusted
Spur is one of
those sculptures that follows a fine line of my travels. When I
look at it, the sculpture shows road burn. It has the flavor of
many miles in my life.from the wind generation station of the San
Bernadino Valley in CA to the giant windmills of Holland, the turbines
of the boats on the coast or the pepper mills of Spain. It's a lot
of history regurgitated. Experiences of time. Where we have all
been. Looking toward the future. How one sees should not be forced,
we all have our own experiences and should look toward this work
with an open eye. The vertical structure rises like a derrick of
an off-shore oil rig, the belly of a space shuttle gas tank, or
just a muffler mount of a '67 Chevy. Feel the sculpture and see
the colors. Look for the ideas within.the uprooting, ground-vibrating
structure captured in the motionless moment of a Polaroid. Is it
necessary to have a kinetic pulse, or can it be imagined? See the
movement.feel the wind.S
